My name is Mary McGovern and I am a self-taught artist living in Tubbercurry, Sligo. I was always interested in art but didn’t get the opportunity to take any art classes. At school it was a choice of art or science, so I took the logical route!
A few years ago I wanted to try painting, so I decided to give it a go. I spent €20 on some small tubes of acrylic paints, some brushes and a painting pad. I found free beginner classes on-line and it took off from there. I paint most days and I really enjoy it. It is both relaxing and challenging and there is nothing like the feeling when you sign your name on the finished masterpiece!
Starting to paint was one of the best decisions I ever made!
Mary likes to use the following materials:
Winsor and Newton Galleria Acrylic paint
Elements Tear off palettes
Daler Rowney Water colour paper 300gsm Cold pressed
Elements A3 Acrylic pad 360gsm
Reeves oil pastels
Sennelier oil pastels
Richard Oliver brushes
