    Stareway to Spelling

    LS61 16
The Stareway To Spelling Manual helps transform students into confident readers, writers and spellers. The manual focuses on the 300 most used words in the English language. It helps students become so familiar with these words that they can read, write and spell them quickly, confidently and accurately.

JUST 300 WORDS COUNT FOR 72% OF EVERYDAY SPOKEN ENGLISH
It may astonish you to know that just 300 words form 72% of the all the words that we regularly use in day to day English. Given the importance of those 300 words and the frequency in which we use them, it is fundamentally important that anyone using English should know how to correctly read and spell these words.

The Stareway To Spelling Manual does just with a systematic approach that commits the 300 words to long-term memory. Once learnt, students recall the words easily, correctly and at will.

The success of Stareway to Spelling is its unique RAWS process: Read – Analyse – Write – Spell. The exercises are fun and the student is encouraged to learn more as they see rapid improvement in their writing and spelling skills.

When all the tiles have been placed, they close the tray, turn it over, and reopen it to reveal a geometric pattern. If the answers are all correct, the pattern will match the one printed at the top of the exercise. There are many different accompanying workbooks for use with the Stile Tray, covering Literacy, Maths and Dyslexia.

Contains 12 x 16-page books (246 x 168mm) and teacher’s notes. Book content is the same as in our Stile Literacy programme.

    Picture of Stride Ahead Workbook

    Stride Ahead Workbook

    LS38 16
Stride Ahead has been written for students who can read but have difficulty in understanding what they are reading.

Many believe that this is the result of their minds being too taken up with the mechanics of decoding the written language to be able to give adequate attention to meaning. Often these students become so adept at disguising their poor reading skills (by guesswork allied with contextual clues) that their teachers may not even be aware that they have a problem. In effect, they are on a ‘reading plateau’ and they often remain there throughout their school careers and on into their adult life.

In the late 70’s Keda Cowling created a unique syllable division which was incorporated into the reading manual Toe By Toe. Over the last few years this system has successfully taught thousands of people – dyslexics and non-dyslexics alike – to read (i.e. decode). This success has been due to the application of this easy-to-use syllable division and the structured over-teaching of the phonemes in question.

The aim of Stride Ahead is to make these phonemes so familiar to dyslexic students that they become able to recognise them instantaneously and without concentrated mental effort and thus they can get on with the process of understanding the text in front of them. Timing is the key to this process and careful timing forms the essence of the Stride Ahead method.
