    MonkMakes Servo Kit for Micro:bit

    Manufacturer: Monk Makes
The Servo Kit for micro:bit makes it easy to connect up three servomotors from your micro:bit. The kit is supplied with the servo board, three servos, a battery cage, and alligator/crocodile leads. The MonkMakes Servo for microbit board provides a really easy way to attach up to three servomotors to a BBC micro:bit. The board requires a power supply or battery pack to provide 5 or 6V to the servomotors. It includes a voltage regulator that will supply 3V back to the micro:bit, so that you don’t have to power it separately.

The board has been designed to allow for alligator/crocodile connections to the microbit. This means that there is no need for mechanical assembly or soldering. You can write code for the attached microbit using either the MakeCode editor or MicroPython.

    Features:
  • Allows you to control the 3 servos provided with the microbit.
  • When powered the board will supply power to the servos and microbit.
  • Connect it to the microbit with alligator/crocodile clips.
  • Use the MakeCode blocks/javascript or MicroPython editors.

  • Contents:
  • 1 x Monk Makes servo board for the microbit.
  • 3 x 9g servomotors and arm kits.
  • 1 x 4xAA battery box.

    Picture of Kitronik Clippable Servo

    Kitronik Clippable Servo

    KI 25105
Kitronik's new clippable servo has had the standard pin header replaced with super useful crocodile clips. This allows it to be used in projects that feature other clippable connection points, such as projects utilising the Kitronik Klip Motor Driver.

The 180 degree rotation servo is based on the Feetech FS90MG-CL and features metal gears, which are more reliable and hard-wearing than their plastic counterparts. The servo is rated to operate between 4.8V - 6V, which gives output Torque of between 1.8kg - 2.2kg respectively. If the clippable servo is being used in micro:bit projects, a separate power supply is required. If you are using the Kitronik Klip Motor Driver, the power can be taken directly from the Klip motor driver board.

The servo can rotate approx. 180 degrees, or approx. 90 in each direction, and it can be driven with any standard 180 degree servo code/libraries. It can be coded using the MakeCode or Python editors which makes it ideal for novice or expert level microbit projects.

The servos are supplied with four horns and the associated fixings which should allow you to slot these servos into your projects with relative ease and without the need to make custom horns.

Note: This servo requires a separate power supply from the controlling micro:bit. Attempting to power this servo directly from the micro:bit is likely to cause permanent damage to the micro:bit.

    Features:
  • The clippable servo has had the standard pin header replaced with super useful crocodile clips.
  • Small and compact yet high power output, 1.8kg of Torque at 4.8V and 2.2kg at 6V.
  • Metal gears for strength and durability.
  • It can be coded using the MakeCode or Python editors
  • Suitable for RC models and Robotics projects.
  • 180 degrees of rotation, 90 in each direction.
  • Operating Voltage of 4.8V - 6V.
  • It can be used with Kitronik clippable micro:bit accessories, such as the Kitronik Klip Motor Driver.

Picture of Grove Ultrasonic Distance Sensor

    Grove Ultrasonic Distance Sensor

    KI 46153
The Grove Ultrasonic Distance Sensor is an ultrasonic transducer that utilizes ultrasonic waves to measures distance. It can measure from 3cm to 350cm with the accuracy up to 2mm. It is a perfect ultrasonic module for distance measurement, proximity sensors, and ultrasonic detector.

This module has an ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic receiver so you can consider it as an ultrasonic transceiver. Similar to sonar, when the 40KHz ultrasonic wave generated by the transmitter encounters the object, the sound wave will be reflected back, and the receiver can receive the reflected ultrasonic wave. It calculates the time from the transmission to the reception, and then multiplies it by the speed of the sound in the air(340 m/s) to calculate the distance from the sensor to the object.

Compared with traditional ultrasonic module, the HC-SR04, the Grove Ultrasonic Distance Sensor integrates a single-chip microcomputer, and the transmitting signal and the receiving signal share one pin by time division multiplexing, so only one I/O pin is occupied. Another difference is that HC-SR04 only supports 5v voltage, while Grove - Ultrasonic Distance Sensor supports 5v and 3.3v. As we know, the Raspberry pi I/O only supports 3.3v. Therefore, Grove - Ultrasonic Distance Sensor can be directly connected to the I/O of the Raspberry Pi, but HC-SR04 needs to use a voltage conversion circuit.

    Features:
  • 3.3V/5V compatible, wide voltage level: 3.2V ∼ 5.2V.
  • Only 3 pins needed, save I/O resources.
  • Wide measurement range of 3cm ∼ 350cm.
  • Easy to use, grove connector, plug and play.

  • Possible Applications:
  • Distance measurement.
  • Ultrasonic detector.
  • Proximity alarm.
  • Smart car/buggy/robot.

  • Dimensions:
  • Length: 50mm.
  • Width: 25mm.
  • Height: 16mm.

Picture of Kitronik PIR Motion Sensor

    Kitronik PIR Motion Sensor

    KI 4633
This is a simple to use motion sensor. Power it up and wait 1-2 seconds for the sensor to get a snapshot of the still room. If anything moves after that period, the ‘alarm’ pin will go low.

This unit works great from 5 to 12V (datasheet shows 12V).

The alarm pin is an open collector meaning you will need a pull up resistor on the alarm pin. The open drain setup allows multiple motion sensors to be connected on a single input pin. If any of the motion sensors go off, the input pin will be pulled low.

Gone is the old “odd” connector, now you will find a common 3-pin JST! This makes the PIR Sensor much more accessible for whatever your project may need. Red = Power, White = Ground, and Black = Alarm.
