Featuring a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, Raspberry Pi 5 delivers a 2-3x increase in CPU performance relative to Raspberry Pi 4! Raspberry Pi 5 also brings with it a huge list of great new features and improvements, making this the best Raspberry Pi yet!
2-3x CPU performance increase The new 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor at the heart of Raspberry Pi 5 runs at 2.4GHz with cryptography extensions, 512KB per-core L2 caches and a 2MB shared L3 cache. This new Broadcom BCM2712 SoC (System on Chip) provides a 2-3x increase in performance over the previous generation of Raspberry Pi!
Improved graphics performance with dual 4Kp60 display output Raspberry Pi 5 delivers a substantial uplift in graphics performance from the 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU, connected to the BCM2712 via PCI Express. This allows Raspberry Pi 5 to offer full dual 4Kp60 display outputvia micro HDMI. These performance improvements provide a smooth desktop experience whilst browsing the internet and streaming videos.
Enhanced I/O capabilities including PCI-E! For the first time, this is a full-size Raspberry Pi computer using silicon built in-house at Raspberry Pi. The RP1 "southbridge" provides the bulk of the I/O capabilities for Raspberry Pi 5, and delivers a step change in peripheral performance and functionality.
Aggregate USB bandwidth is more than doubled, yielding faster transfer speeds to external UAS drives and other high-speed peripherals
Peak MicroSD card performance is doubled, through support for the SDR104 high-speed mode
Single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface, providing support for high-bandwidth peripherals.
Power button (finally!) Makers and enthusiasts have been asking for a dedicated onboard power button on the Raspberry Pi for as long as we can remember - and Raspberry Pi 5 finally delivers this much-requested convenience!
Real-time clock (RTC) A real-time clock (RTC) is built into the board, allowing you to maintain time/date information even when you power off or aren't connected to the internet (when a backup battery is connected). A dedicated header on the board has been added to allow the use of a backup battery for the RTC. A lithium battery with a compatible header will be available on, or shortly after, the launch of Raspberry Pi 5.
Dedicated fan header Raspberry Pi 5 includes a new dedicated fan header to the right of the familiar GPIO pin header, allowing you to connect and run a cooling fan without interfering with your GPIO-connected devices. Now you can add HATs and other hardware without workarounds to connect a fan.
Dedicated UART header Another handy addition to Raspberry Pi 5 is the dedicated UART header. Now you can debug and control your Raspberry Pi 5 headlessly and without interfering with your GPIO pins. This dedicated UART header also allows debugging from boot, and is designed to be used with the Raspberry Pi Debug probe for quick, convenient debugging.
Plus other improvements and changes
Mounting holes for coolers/heatsinks (designed for the Raspberry Pi Active Cooler)
Composite video header
Memory indication markers for easy board RAM identification
Unique board ID number on the board and packaging
Relocated PoE header
Audio jack removed
Flush(ish) underside to GPIO pins
Metal supporting tabs to protect components on the underside

The Raspberry Pi 7" Touchscreen Display adds a truly interactive visual capability to the Raspberry Pi. The potential applications are huge and will lead to the emergence of many new innovative projects including tablets, personalised infotainment systems and home automation projects.
To use this display with a Raspberry Pi 5, you will need to buy this adapter cable!
Features The 7” Touchscreen Monitor for Raspberry Pi gives users the ability to create all-in-one, integrated projects such as tablets, infotainment systems and embedded projects.
The 800 x 480 display connects via an adapter board which handles power and signal conversion. Only two connections to the Pi are required; power from the Pi’s GPIO port and a ribbon cable that connects to Raspberry Pi boards with a DSI connector (not compatible with the Raspberry Pi Zero) / Raspberry Pi 5 requires a separate cable)
Touchscreen drivers with support for 10-finger touch and an on-screen keyboard are integrated into the Raspberry Pi OS for full functionality without a physical keyboard or mouse.
Turn your Raspberry Pi into a touchscreen tablet, infotainment system, or standalone device
Truly Interactive - supports a virtual ‘on-screen’ keyboard, so there is no need to plug in a keyboard and mouse
Make your own ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) devices including a visual display. Simply connect your Raspberry Pi, develop a Python script to interact with the display, and you’re ready to create your own home automation devices with touchscreen capability
A range of educational software and programs available on the Raspberry Pi are touch-enabled, making learning and programming easier on the Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi 5 case is made of ABS construction with cut-outs for the dual HDMI, Audio/Video, USB, Ethernet ports, as well as the USB-C power connector and access to the microSD card. The status LED can be easily visible through the rubber reflector. An optional clip-on lid can be removed to provide access to your Raspberry Pi's GPIO pins or connect a HAT.
The case is a refinement of the Raspberry Pi 4 case, with improved thermal features to support the higher peak power consumption of Raspberry Pi 5. It integrates a variable-speed fan which is controlled by a dedicated connector on the Raspberry Pi 5 PCB.
The new official Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera module (HQ Camera) for the Raspberry Pi is here - take your Raspberry Pi camera projects up a gear with the 12-megapixel Sony sensor, integrated aluminium tripod mount and interchangeable lens compatibility!
To use this camera with a Raspberry Pi 5, you will need to buy this adapter cable! To use this camera with a Raspberry Pi Zero, you will need to buy thisadapter cable!
The incredible new High Quality (HQ) Camera module from Raspberry Pi offers a higher resolution (12 megapixels, compared to 8 megapixels), and sensitivity than the previous Camera Module v2. It features a Sony IMX477 sensor, a 200mm FPC cable for connection to your Raspberry Pi, a milled aluminium lens mount with integrated 1/4” -20 tripod mount and focus adjustment ring, and a C- to CS-mount adapter. A lens cover is also included with the module and comes pre-fitted. There’s even a small screwdriver in the box for making adjustments. It’s designed to work with interchangeable lenses in both C- and CS-mount form factors giving you ultimate flexibility with your Raspberry Pi camera projects. A C-CS mount adapter comes pre-fitted to the module.
Familiar coding The High Quality (HQ) Camera uses the same commands as the standard Raspberry Pi Camera Module, such as libcamera (or raspistill/raspivid if you're using Buster or an even older OS image). Libcamera and similar commands will query the camera firmware for the resolution of the sensors (as they already do today) and will default to 12 megapixels for the High Quality Camera. The drivers for the High Quality (HQ) Camera are built-in to Raspberry Pi OS too, so upgrading your camera project with the High Quality Camera is a simple task.
Magnificent for Makers A huge range of popular projects from time-lapse photography to Raspberry Pi CCTV-style systems can be made double-awesome with the new High Quality Camera module. Shoot in greater detail, with improved low-light performance and take advantage of the range of available lenses to get the perfect shot.
Incredible for Industry The High Quality Camera provides an alternative to the Camera Module v2 for industrial and consumer applications, including security cameras which require the highest levels of visual fidelity and/or integration with specialist optics.
